I am going to try this again. Once a day, preferably in the AM, I will post a song I’ve heard since the last time I posted - a song a day. In addition, I plan to embed a flickr slideshow of images tagged with the band’s name post an image related to the artist, so you can check out some pics while listening. Well, at least that’s the plan - I’ll do my best. In the spirit of my blog’s new name, Blanks + Postage, I’ll coin it “Filler of the Day”.
My first selection is from one of my all-time favorite albums. Widespread Panic’s self-titled album was their second release. It is a masterpiece in my humble opinion. If I had to live with only 5 albums the rest of my life, this one easily makes the list. There is something special about the studio version of “Pigeons”. I have never heard a “Pigeons” live that beats the studio version. It’s not that the live version is bad. Quite the opposite. The studio version is just so damn well. Take a listen.
My song of the day inpsired by Bob Lefsetz letter “Track of the Day”. You should read the entire letter but I love when he says:
Listening to “Space Wrangler” is like having your best friend drop by unannounced and insist you get in his car for a road trip. The automobile’s not a Ferrari. It’s probably not even a convertible. And a movie star is not sitting in the backseat. But staring out the windshield, you’re in heaven anyway. Thinking that being alive is so fucking great! Thinking about the unknown, contemplating your adventure.
You know when anyone posts a Panic tune, I am going to reblog. It’s standard protocol. I will have to check out the Lefsetz article. Sometimes he gets on my nerves though since he can be so negative, but it sounds like this is a positive one.
